How hard is it to install an Electronic Climate Control Unit into a VR Exec? What is required? Thanks
Quite a pain... Its been done though... someone out there will be more helpful than me I hope think dash out jobbie... installing servos, installing vacuum block, installing sensor behind front bumper, sensor on dash, etc...
Here in SA Just Commodore Spares (Nothing to do with this forum) will install it for you, but i believe that the labor costs are astronomical as it is a time consuming and sometimes difficult job.
Thanks for those replies. Has anyone installed it all theirselves? Do you have to get the sensors shaggerz spoke of seperately?
You can't just swap the module if thats what you were thinking... theres a large pile of sensors and servo motors that need to be installed throughout the dash to get it going. Its definitely not a small job. Also, my climate control (factory) is STUPID and has no clue what temperature it is doing.. if I set it to 25 degrees, sometimes its burning hot, sometimes its ice cold, and sometimes it randomly decides to crank the fan up full or blow air on your feet only... Stupid system :bang: I'm sure there must be something broken in mine lol but no idea what or where to start. Only thing I am fairly sure about is that it is not the ambient temp sensor.
Might not worry too much about it then. So basically, the climate control unit does all the temperature and cooling automatically? what else does it do?
sounds like a vacuum prob shaggerz, i just replaced the vacuum block (solenoid control unit) and the control unit (where you push the buttons) and its fixed. either the vacuum block is not controlling the vacuum properly or the control is sending it the wrong voltages, hence, the vacuum block sends out incorrect vacuum pressures. the entire system is controlled by vacuum. its good to use free vacuum, but sucks because it is entirely dependant on the motor running smoothly...all the time, hence, old motors causes probs with the system. with mine, i did the heads, so the vacuum is not as strong as the tock heads so i'm having probs with not enough vacuum to keep the heater water tap closed so the aircon is not as cold as it can be.
You pretty much summed it all up there. You set the temperature that you want the car to be and it will adjust the heating and cooling accordingly.
nope just temperatures... can also display the temperature outside the car but so can a car thermometer
yeah conver is not worth it, all u get is a screen to choose ya temp instead of a dail.. It tells u the ambient temp (outside) Has a Auto temp/speed function that determines a nice temp or U can choose wat temp u wish to be blown on you. And demister runs off the a/c soo it turns compressor on just for the front demister n cant make it work off normal outside air like execy's Ohh n the screen lights up green woow
i'll give everyone a tip. if you got aircon in your car, you too can control the temperature just like climate control.....use the heater control with with the aircon running. that's what climate control does! if you set climate control down to the coldest temp, it shuts off the heater water tap, when you increase the temperature setting, it uses vacuum to open up the tap to let hot water in accordingly, other sensors monitor the air temp and the tap opens or closes accordingly. lets say your driving on a cold winter night, the windows are all foggy, so you turn the aircon on to get rid of the fog, but its cold....don't turn off the aircon, turn up the temp setting instead. have the aircon on with the temp dial turned to heat keeps dry air circulating in the car to stop the fog and the occupants warm.
