Hi guys I've been looking at full leather seats for my VS sedan and I'm wondering if it's better to keep the cloth that I currently have or get leather.
Can anyone give me a heads up on how the leather is in the summer and winter? Also are they really slippery? So if I take a corner hard, am I going to slide around?
And I have to maintain the leather as well I believe. Any help would be awesome, thanks.

Let's face it leather looks the best but it is cold in winter when you first sit on it and in summer if you sit on it when the sun has been shining on it you'll almost burn any exposed skin.
    No problems with sliding around.
Clean leather with a good leather cleaner and leather conditioner regularly and will last a long, long time.

I've got custom made leather seat covers for the clubby. They're awesome to look at and awesome in winter but when summer comes they make you sweat and yeah not pleasant on exposed skin when you first get in after its been in the sun (although the heat can be soothing lol). I'm tempted half the time to take them off but I don't want my seats ruined and the leather is better protection from my kiddies and dirt etc.

    sweaty arse crack
    3rd degree burns in summer
frozen to the seat in winter
sliding into the buckle round hard corners
cracks in the "leather" that stab you when wearing shorts
rock hard if not attended to every 4.5mins with a plastic softener.

velour seats are by far a better option.

    I agree with ari

I have had both over the years.

I prefer Velour seats over everything else (My favorite seats were the VN calais velour seats, very soft but supportive at the same time)

If you want the looks for the wank factor then go leather, but for everything else it's just a pain in the ass

I have leather in my new statesman but my VR statesman has the pitted velour seats so I have both.

Nothing beats the smell of leather and the sound it makes when you sit in it. For that luxury feel and experience, leather hands down. It brings that ambiance and feel of a limousine that nothing else can. I like that it just wipes clean but you need to maintain it. The look of slightly aged leather with creases like you would find in a big leather lounge or couch (not crows feet) brings character.

Velour is soft, but it just doesn't bring the "experience" of leather to motoring. Temperature wise, it's much more comfortable but harder to keep clean.

Why not get a set of caprice seats? Leather with velour pads. You won't burn your ass and legs that way if you're wearing shorts.

Well okay. I could always just put covers on it like I have now on my seats, but that kinda defeats the purpose of getting them in first place then doesn't it??
Edit: Maybe I should just get some VS Statesman cloth seats. They have better padding and the cloth is nicer, I think. Someone care to share some light?

I had a statey with cloth seats, was excellent. I'm not sure if it was repadded in its life time, but when I bought it with 170,000km the seats were awesome and comfortable.

The cloth felt really nice, and it had a classic 90s pattern which I really liked. Velour trims were nice too. Personally I like it better than the leather, but I've never had a car with leather interior. so I can't judge the other end of the scale on comfort and daily use.

I would probably like the leather better if I saw it new, but new or near new condition vs leather seats these days is non existent. Holden leather is pretty ****, most people don't care for it and because it's not exactly top notch it tears and cracks pretty quick, so finding a complete set without some damage is hard.

My uncle has a VS statesman with cloth and I reckon I might check them out next time he comes around. They have to be better than the standard commodore ones, surely.

thats all good if they are in fact leather, when was the last time you saw a commodore with real leather and not holden vinyl?

i dare ya to touch a soldering iron to your leather seats ;) if its leather it wont do anything so you wont have any problems.

do it and post pics :D

Coming from vinyl and cloth, I prefer the vinyl, which is pretty much what holden leather is. Vinyl bench vs cloth buckets and the vinyl wins hands down.

But yes it needs looking after. Hot in summer? Not if you park in the shade or put covers up on the windows, cold in winter? Any car is till the heater cranks up, it's only really slippery when it's had armourall on it, which you shouldn't do anyway, but that sound as you slide in onto the seat is great.
Don't have to worry about stains on the seats when getting the jiggy on with the woman on the back seat, it's all good, wipes off, and baby wipes are great for that, and cloth looks terrible once it's stretched, leather and vinyl, not so.

Ideally it only cracks on the side from where your arse rubs on it getting in and out, if it's cracked on the base or front, that means the seat buggered and you should've got it recover years ago.

Do it, you know you want to, and it's just better.
Do it do it do it!

Thanks for the help guys haha. Cloth has almost no cons where leather sounds...annoying. I'll check the statesman cloth and I'll see from there. The back seats fit don't they? Without the mod to make them fit perfectly.
