    Hi All,

Just picked up a 2002 VX 2 Calais for the missus as a daily runabout. One of the only problems is that the head light lenses have gone cloudy.

I think i've seen a headlight repair kit at repco, however it seems it's just a polish of some type?

I have some autosol metal polish at home, would this work to clean up the lenses on the headlights?

    Cheers

Yes just buy some polish and clean them up, the metal polish may be a bit harsh!

It will be slow by hand, do you know someone with a polisher?

Try rubbing vigorously with the inside of avocado and mango skins.

There might also be moisture in the headlight. Get some 10g bags of silica gel, loop some fishing line through it and drop it into the headlight for a day. Don't use the lights in this time.

Toothpaste works, it's cheap and you already have it (I hope). It will go cloudy again after 6 months or so though. I don't see the point in paying $30 for a headlight polishing kit when a new light is $100.

It tried some cutting compound but I seem to be making it worse rather than better?

Might try some toothpaste and see what happens.

Metal polish (in this case Brasso) rubbed hard and for a few minutes with corrugated cardboard ("soft" cardboard), followed by Mothers Scratch Remover did the job on the Mitsi FTO lenses. Worked well, better than the cutting compound I'd used before.
Was going to use the same process on the VY headlight lenses, but I might try the toothpaste trick.
    Regular or Whitener?

As above, brasso and tear up your best flannelette shirt, about 5 mins and you don't have to put that much elbow grease into it.
silvo will work, same deal with cd's (brasso for deep scratches, silvo for fine)

Few minutes with the above method (it's not yellow, that was just the flash).

Maybe I'm doing something wrong, I seem to be making it worse. The lens isn't cloudy all over but any area I work on doesn't come up like the good area's. The area's I've worked on though do feel a lot smoother that the other cloudy areas.

Maybe I'll try removing the headlight to make it easier to work on.

It's almost like the lens has a coating of some sort on it.

Jiff works well also. It contains a very mild abrasive.
Got rid of some slight over spray in the engine compartment, it polished the paint as well and left NO scratches.
