G'day all, My VR is starting to clunk into drive and reverse. Will a oil change fix it?? Also, she still isnt shifting into 4th, unless rolling down a hill with ya foot off the gas???? Any help would be tops. Thanks a heap. Cheers:thumbsup:
it might, it could be that it wont shift into fourth because the solenoid is all sludged up or if the trans fluid is low. however i'd sway more towards it being on it's way to the scrap yard in the sky. Its a hard one, replace the fluid and flilter and is about $125 if you do it yourself, probably twice that if a mechanic does it, however my mate got a low k's trans fitted for $350 (including trans purchase) if it was my car, i'd check the error codes to see if the ECU is picking up any problems from the ECU, pullt he engine fuse out for 10 seconds and attempt to start the car without the engine fuse. replace the engine fuse and go for a drive, recheck and compare codes, those that re-appear, id check with the list on this site, and or in your Gregorys or Haynes manual and see whats going on. depending on the results i'd either service the tranny, or replace it. might be worth comming back and asking again after checking the error codes.
Checking fluid level would be a start. The Gregorys book says to get the tranny hot after a 24km drive and then leave in park for 3 mins idling. then check the level. Every source has a different procedure on how to check oil but thats how I do it. Could also be as simple as the linkage from gear shift to transmission needs adjusting. Leaving my car in park overnight used to do some strange things from massive clunking into reverse and drive to the car refusing to change into second gear. Spent 20 mins adjusting the link and all is well now. Not saying its that easy but worth a try before expecting a large repair bill
