hows it goin

i have a VP V6 5 speed manual ute.

when i go to take off, change gear, put my foot down and even take my foot off the accellerator (engine breaking), i get a slight clunk in the drivetrain.

also say im going to slow for a gear and the car is about to stall and 'kangaroo hopping' it makes a very loud ching ching ching metal on metal noise everytime the car jolts forward, so there is obviously slack in something.

my first guess is engine mounts but is there any other mounts i should be taking a look at? are engine mounts a hard job to do at home with basic tools? (if its relatively simple ill be able to do it)

cheers, sid

Have you checked your uni joints on the tail shaft?

have you checked for give in the diff? basically just get underneath and check for give in as much of the drivetrain as possible by grabbing the tail shaft and trying to turn it. uni joints would be your first bet. also check you're centre bearing mount in nice and tight and that there is not too much give in the rubber surrounds in that... and also do you have a larger aftermaket exhaust? sometimes if you get a vibration through the tail shaft it'll actually knock against an aftermarket exhaust system...

a clunk when applying power and then another when lifting off the throttle indicates a stuffed uni. most likely the one that attaches the drive shaft to the diff.
