I've been getting a terrible clunking noise from the front right. It only happens when hitting pot holes or dips in the road, usually when driving on **** roads. It sounds like 2 pieces of aluminium hitting each other.

I thought maybe it was something to do with my brakes, but I just noticed that when I push down on the front of the car I can hear a liquid sound coming from the front right strut tower, no sound from the left.

I read on old threads that apparently the strut can pop through the bonnet with enough force, definately don't want that happening.

So is the strut buggered? Car is standard FE2.

Nuts holding the strut to the rubber strut tops could need tightening up or the rubber strut tops themselves have collapsed.Looking from under the bonnet at the rubber stut tops themselves are they sitting firmly against the strut tower or is there a gap indicating they are collapsing.Look back through the threads and I posted a couple of photos showing the difference in old and new.Might pay to check and tighten everything while under there. That liquid sound is the fluid in the strut valving -all good

You mentioned squishy noise, might be the shockie is shot and in turn has damaged the ball joint.

A damaged shockie will damage a ball joint fairly quickly especially on crap roads.

Top strut bush has reached the end of serviceable life. Replace.

So update, (fixed it ages ago) turned out to be the metal plate underneath the car covering the oil filter and such, the 4 bolts had come a little loose. Tightened and fixed.
