Hi all, In a follow up to my previous thread I actually have the cluster in my hand and the pins that shorted turn out to be Pulse GND and 2 Pulse (or possibly Pulse GND and Right Turn). What happened is the ribbon got damaged so I soldered directly from one point to the pin at the back of the cluster but didn't solder well enough and they made contact with each other. Now I'm just trying to figure out what I broke (must be something - speed alert doesn't show speed as well, only the ALDL cable shows it so it's not the sensor) and how to fix whatever "Pulse" is? Thanks heaps guys, this car's killing me
Sounds like you need a very very fine point temperature controlled soldering iron. What I've done in your situation is to solder individual wires to the ribbon....maybe 6 or 8 separate thin insulated wires. then its more easy to solder the individual wired to the PCB instead of worrying about the ribbon and it's fixed spacing between wires.
In the future I'll just be way more careful with installing the cluster so the ribbons don't get cut on the interior, but right now something else is broken Good advice with the fine point soldering iron though
You may have fugged somthing on the speedo board id say. Can you plug it into another vr/s anywhere and see if it works. But given you got aldl reading then i would have to say its likely local to the cluster and more so the speedo itself.
