hey guy's im in the process of putting a vr v6 manual back together and am having a problem that is really starting to **** me!! i have got a x-clutch KGM26001DSBHD clutch and am finding that there is no pressure on the pedal inside he car untill it hits the floor , i am wondering if there is a spacer that i need on the thrust bearing or if maybe i got sent the wrong thrust bearing with my kit???? doesnt matter how much i adjust the clutch cable either way. i only realised tonight that im missing the clip wich holds the release fork to the bearing but i dont think that could be causing the problems im having any ideas??? this is the 4th clutch in this car as i cant seem to find one that will cope with the power, and no im not dreaming , 220rwkw due to the turbo i put on it. the last one almost handled it....but for some reason this has got me stumped! the car has been dormant for a bi and i moved house so maybe ive lost something in the process??? but by the look's of it i think i have the wrong bearing????
dont worry about the clip.. i didnt put a clip in mine.. been fine.. aslong as you got the thrust bearing in correctly you should be sweet.. is it possible that the clutch fork isnt correctly sittin on the ball pivot?? are these ones adjustable.. i cant remember if they were adjustable on my vn when i did the conversion.. maybe because you didnt put the thrust race clip on the fork has come off the bearing? i made sure mine stayed on it while puttin the box in. does the clutch fork seem to be sittin a fair way forward in the box? if it sittin fairly close to the front of the box.. maybe its a problem in the bell housing.. if it looks like its sittin back towards the back where it should be then it could even be a clutch cable?
ive got a relatively new clutch cable, thrust bearingis on correctly, release fork was sitting fine, ive put it in and pulled out 4 times tonight trying things, the pivot is adjustable but it shouldnt need to be adjusted, i havent adjusted it before and they were all ok, clutch fork sits hell foward and then you push it back and it sits at the back?
seeing as the clutch cable pulls the clutch fork.. it would have to be sittin right back .. so the fork should move most the way forward.. then move most the way back when you release.. its either a wrong thrust bearing.. or the clutch is around the wrong way.. which i doubt because i dont think its possible. if u want i can go out and quickly measure how thick my old thrust race was and you can measure the new one and see if its smaller.. or just match it up to the old on if u still got it.
also just dawned on me that seeing as its an after market clutch maybe the thrust race is goin to be a different size anyway seeing as it may need to compensate for the different clutch.. but if the clutch fork is sittin far forward after you have pushed the clutch in.. then you def have a problem in the belhousing area.. which can only be thrust race or clutch.
i think im onto the right trach in regards to the whole wrong thrust bearing ting i have my one in my hand and it looks heaps differen to the one i was expecting, havent really had a good look at it till now, i think they have given me the getrag box bearing????
i'd say either wrong thrust bearing or this clucth requires you to adjust the pivot point for the clutch fork closer into the clutch, may be wrong but there my two cents.
and check you havent bent your clutch fork, in mine i got less and less of the pedal movement actually doing sumthin and then one day she decided to snap and i had and interestin clutchless drive home in traffic
if you have had the flywheel machined you will need to adjust the pivot point also. i'd definitly doulbe check the thrust bearing also as it should be similar to the old one, i'd imagine the pressure plate would be fairly similar to the old one as well
Make sure the pedal spring isnt broken as it actually pushes the pedal down so the the throwout bearing constantly makes contact with the pressure plate fingers...if its broken it doesnt move down and you cant adjust it. I thought I must be something wrong when I did it ...no matter how I adjusted the cable at the throwout fork the pedal height didnt change until something clicked and Ihad a good look and saw it was broken. In the book it says that if the clutch plate was binding on the input shaft splines it could cause this lack of travel problem too.
wel its official........i have the ****s big time now. i got the new thrust bearing but the numbers dont match what i was expecting so ill enquire about that tomorrow but i have put the gearbox in 5 times tonight and still no progress on the pedal tension, i moved the pivot point cos the flywheel has been shaved, i think i'm gonna have to get the clip which holds the thrust bearing and release fork together anyone know where i can find a new spring for the clutch pedal????
latest update..........stil pucked! i got the clip and as i thought it still has no difference in tension, does anybody know the length of the clutch cable????? if possible can someone take a photo of their clutch cable where it goes into the fire wall?? maybe im missing a spacer or something, im utta ideas after that
Try this attachment http://forums.justcommodores.com.au...clutch-cable-urgent-question-clutch-cable.jpg it shows it in my car
cheers for that champ, looks exactly like what i have i have someone coming to check t out tonight so hopefully all is good
