code 24 and gear box problems (auto)

    ok guys me mates sisters boyfriend has a vn and the speedo dont work now it is showing code 24 which is speed sensor...fair enough will be fixing that BUT if this sensor is rooted woud this stop the transmission from changeing gears? as it only changes to 2 then when warmed up it changes to third but overdrive still dont work :cry: ok the kickdown cable works fine and adjusted fine

    No, the problems with the 'box will not be directly related to the speed sensor fault. The auto trans. in VN (and VP) is controlled hydraulically only, with the exception of the torque converter lock up clutch.

    The torque converter clutch operation will be affected by the speed sensor (or lack of it).

    ah ok thanks mate ......hes thinking about buying another cheap vn and swap the kit thats on it now (aero kit) as the auto is stuffed and the engin is stuffed as we found out yester day...it lags and it has a nice oil mixed with coolent in the coolent resivoure...leaks oil like no tommorow (think rear main) overheats sometimes (think he fixed that) and also drinks plenty of fuel (only a v6) but we may do some little bits and pices to if for now
