I've only recently purchased an unreg. '95 VR commodore. I had it fully serviced after purchase and it breezed through the roadworthy and re reg no problems. After only a week of driving (approx 50klms in which time it drove beautifully) it went into limp home mode and shows code 82 error. The 1-2 solenoid has been replaced (genuine parts) by a local holden dealer, transmission serviced and near everything else 'supposedly' inspected and checked but still the issue continues. No-one seems to be able to figure the problem not even the dealer. Not being overly clued in with cars I'm at a total loss what to do next. It's cost me a small fortune with no fix in sight. After resetting the ecm the engine check light on the dash comes back on after only a couple of seconds. This is getting really frustrating as it was meant to be my drive car. Can anyone suggest anything that may not have been tried? It appears I'm just throwing away money and the funds are fast running out. Many thanks, Chris

Maybe it's the ECU/ECM that is at fault. I'd guess that when the ECU/ECM tells the box to change from 2 to 3 it expects to see either a known resistance from the 2/3 solenoid indicating that it has done what it was designed to do, OR it sees a dead short or open circuit from the solenoid and registers a code 82 also throwing the box into LHM. By the way, can you still change manually?

Thanks for the reply hako. I was thinking maybe the ECU is in doubt as the guys at the dealership said they tested all the wiring from the tranny back to the ECU and no issues were found. As for manual shifting, no. It's 2nd and 3rd only regardless of how I try (and reverse of course). They also mentioned the gearbox seems quite fine and when the oil was originally drained it showed no sign of internal issues such as the brown colour or burn smell normally associated with a stuffed transmission/inner clutches. They had it for a month and quite frankly I reckon they were sick of looking at it knowing full well they couldn't keep charging me for labour when no fix was forthcoming. It's a bit of an old girl and not really worth the time and effort. I feel otherwise obviously as it drove perfectly in the lead up. I turned the car off but when I restarted it an hour later it had all gone pear shaped so it's not as if I was even driving when 'it' happened. I might try and hunt up another ecu/ecm and see what happens. I was put onto a supposed auto trans guru late this afternoon and I'm awaiting a reply as to whether he has seen a problem like this before. I'm really hoping he has as it has so many people scratching their heads and I'm without a car in the meantime. Cheers

Bugger! I purchased and installed another PCM today. Same problem still exists. At a total loss of what to do now. In hindsight I really wished I had never purchased this car as it has been nothing but trouble and a major cause of stress. Give me the oldskool Holdens any day as the Commodores appear nothing more than a pile of proverbial crud :spew: If only I'd pumped the money into my old FJ I'd have something reliable to drive. Biggest mistakes are often made with the best of intentions eh. Anyway thanks for the help but I think I'll de-register it to sell and see if I can't get a little of my money back. Many thanks again. Cheers

Maybe the loom in the box is damaged.

That would be my guess too, when it was 'fully serviced' did you have the auto serviced? Maybe they broke a wire and didnt notice or the connector is snapped or pin backed out. The wires and plastic connectors become really brittle after a while running so hot. That woud be my first point of call after checking the fuses wiring, and ecu.
