Buy an Envious Customs scan tool and plug it into your laptop. Buy it from their site or you won't get the good , easy to use software included.

if you are wanting to display the codes
bridge pin 5 and 6 on obd2 port under steering column
then turn ignition to reds
check engine light will bling codes
vx is four digit so first will be 10 10 1 2 equals fault 0012 equals engine not running no fault
each sequence will go through 3 times and then move to next sequence
