"COG" symbol in driver instrument cluster

Hi,
I have a 2018 RS ZB Commodore AWD and have noticed that whilst in sport mode and driving hard the chequered flag symbol changes to a hollow COG intermittently and then reverts to the chequered flag when driving normally.
Can anyone help identify what this symbol means?
