I remember when I had a 2002 CV8 5.7ltr Monaro and had piston slap so I complained at around 4000k they replace the Engine only to be replace again at 5800k only to remove that engine and replace the Pistons with longer skirts and after this the Engine was good but was noted with engines with longer skirts on the 5.7 LTR Engines lost about 5kw to the total so a 225K engine had now 220Kw. Months later I found my self in one of the rear wheels in mud on a level road and I could not get out yet the car had a LSD so After I complained to Holden it was found that the diff was defective and when I had it replaced I soid the car. The Car was a Lemon.
After this I purchased a second hand (9800K on the clock) CV8Z and it was perfect in all issue I had with the 2002 CV8.

Genuine Holden LSD's are notorious for letting one axel slip.

The trouble was with my First Engine on my CV8 monaro not only it rattles it must have destroyed the oil rings as it use to eat 1 ltr of oil in 800 to1000ks and the Holden Dealers said to me thats noting as we had one here that swallowed 1 lts in 500K. You would this that after the disaster of the LS1 GM would never have made the same mistake again in the LS3

I never really understood why such a mass produced engine had issues here, I've lost count of the LS motors I've owned and only a 03 VY clubsport with 40 K rattled bad( no oil usage)

Over the years I’ve had an LS1, L98, L76. Currently have an L77 and a LS3, only the L77 rattles when it’s cold

Funny think about piston slap on LS1 (Around 2002) and the LS3 (around 2016-2017) In the LS1 days most LS1 rattle a little when cold but clear up when at normal temperature but some like my one would rattle even when hot but after this it would eat oil. Now for the LS3 I've only heard ONE only LS3 rattle and this car (my Mates) rattled cold and even hot but because the car was out of warranty he decided to hot up the engine and it the same time fix the ratting engine which it did. Now this cost him $10,000 with all goodies in the engine with no rattle +he had a Big HP engine that ran 11.6 on the quarter with street tyres. Not bad but cost him $10,000 + a blown diff and a few clutches only because he wanted to get away from a rattling engine.
For me I would have been happy to get rid of the rattling issue that bugged him but not spend $10,000 to do it with more HP. Arrrrgh well we are all different.
