If I had my way I'd be pushing for a cash settlement and put the money to having an engine builder work their magic and I'd be happily paying extra for parts to increase the bottom end strength while I'm at it.

Take a bad situation and use it to my own advantage while maintaining a factory matching numbers car.

Whenever possible I'd rebuild before replacement every time.

.

What's the advantage of matching numbers compared to dealer engine replacement properly documented process ?

If I live for another 80 years I might be able to answer that.

My comment is really in response to the auction values of matching number cars compared to non-matching and I would think a warranty engine swap would fall in between them.

The big money in most cases goes to something as pure as possible from the factory floor.

It's also to do with my anal attention to things like that.

In the short term it won't make the slightest difference to the value of the vehicle for most people.

I’m with you Panhead, rebuild before replacement to keep matching numbers, you also get the opportunity to have an engine built to spec by someone who actually knows how to use a micrometer to get it right

+1 i'd go down that path too, with some extra fruit thrown in.

Out of curiosity what would be an approximate price for a full ls3 engine rebuild?

How long is a piece of string?

A few grand to the cost of half a house.
