Hi Yah My Vr Has Been Playing up really bad lately. When I start it up the revs go up to about 1500 rpm sometime 2000 and comes back down to idle in about 5 to 10 secs. Or when I start it it sounds really rough and lumpy like it is starving for fuel but come godd with a couple of revs. It doesnt do this all the time but when it does my thermo fans never work ( I dont know whether it is related to this ) My Car overheated today I pulled over just in time I was stuck in traffic no fans kicked in and she statred spewing coolant out through the overflow tube. And then it will do stupid things like after I have driven 5 mins down the road engine still cold fan kicks on and will not turn off till I turn the car off then the engine fault code light will come on when I next start the car. But when The car starts fine with no high idle probs the fans seem to kick on correctly. Also just wondering when my fans kick in both fans come on and it has always worked this way I dont run air con it has been disconnected so is it correct for both fans to come on at once. I just need to know is it a stuffed Temp sender or something major I want to do just hook up the fans manually now So I dont run into trouble again, cause the temp went up very very fast pretty nerve racking in traffic.

    Firstly,

Check for error codes by shorting pins 5 and 6 with a paperclip (there is a sticky on how to do this somewhere on the site :p).

Could be a few things wrong, possibly a stuffed thermostat or temp sensor. The ECU should show an error with the temp sensor. Could also be a block in the cooling system.

As for the high revs things, well it should idle at around 1,200 when you first start it or so. 1500-2000 seems high unless its really cold.

Again, we need the error codes to know exactly whats wrong.

When you say both fans come on, are you talking about the aircon fan as well?

As for overheating... well there are a couple of tricks to get you home. Turn the heater on full (put down your windows) and turn the aircon on (by doing this, both thermofans should come on and the heater core will act as a radiator). If the heater doesn't get hot, i would suggest its a stuffed thermostat or blockage.

Yeah Both Fans come on. It has started working properly today fans were coming when they were suppose to I rigged up a manual switch for them anyway as a fail safe so hopefully it should go ok. Even with the manual switch turned both fans come on auxillary and ac. The only thing I can guess at my old mechanic said my compressor was stuffed so he disconnected it even when I put the ac switch on nothing at all happens. But Both fans definatley come on.

Don't mean to cendescend but have you tried resetting the computer?

I had aproblem with overheating when I first got my car, there was a hairline crack in left radiator side(when viewed from front) you couldn't actually see it, all I saw was a tiny bit of white residue, I payed the local radiator repair place a hundreds bucks after taking the radiator out myself, also replaced all hoses and thermostadt and then took car back for pressure testing.
