vz sedan vs ute gsx1400
we are finding out that the high pressure fuel filter in motorbike tanks are clogging up and they are a seal unit and not cheap to replace

but one of our members on the gsx1400 forum is a mechanic and efi specialist, he did a filter bypass by drilling a 10mm hole at the inlet and fitting a 30 micron inline filter, 30 bucks on ebay some efi hose, hose clamps or quick connects like these https://www.efihardware.com/products/c473/Quick-Disconnect-Fittings

there should be a smart person out there who can do this mod to a car and fit a external filter

It would need to bypass the pump, which is in the tank, that doesn’t make sense.

so whats causes the pump to fail overheating due to low fuel in the tank or a block filter

Overheating when running with half a tank or less. Design uses fuel to cool it, is a high output non-return jobbie.

Half tank or less ? Far out, that seems a ridiculously high threshold to avoid over heating.

Yeah nah like I wouldn’t worry about it, simple enough to open a hole and swap in a new one. I’ve done 320k km and only had it fail once, always do interstate down to last drop.
Next time there a pre-built porthole so is cinchy.

Years ago (many years ago, like the 1960's), Amoco had petrol stations out here with a gimmick called the Final Filter, a large cylindrical attachment fitted the pump hose immediately below the nozzle. I don't recall other brands having this device and today, Amoco is long gone and the nozzles are fitted directly to the hose at every station.

I don't know if it worked but at least it showed a corporate awareness of an issue that persists to this day.

Corprate awareness or corporate responsibility ?

I'm suprised there isn't a solution for fitting a filter that attaches to the fuel filler tube (for want of the correct technical term) that is easily removable to prevent the contaminants entering the tank in the first place.
