My Commodore has past it's 40K service point and the little service icon comes on when I switch off the engine - and 40000 shows up too. Was wondering if anyone knows how to reset this? My car was serviced at 39K but obviously they forgot to reset for 40K! From past experience you used to have to press the mode button and the down arrow and turn the ignition to on and wait till the engine buzzes you. I have a 2002 VX II Executive. Can anyone help?

Cool thanks for that Garth, then it's the same one as I've got here.

1. Ensure the motor is at operating temperature (then switch off).
2. Turn ignition to ON position but don't start the car.
3. Remove Engine Control/BCM fuse no 29 which should be a 10amp.
4. Wait 20 seconds for the speed alert to chime.
5. Turn the ignition OFF.
6. Replace fuse no 29.
7. Follow the following idle learn procedure.

Anytime you drop the power out to the BCM the learned idle is lost. For example a flat battery.

Automatic Transmission

1. Turn OFF the ignition.
2. Replace fuse no 29 if you haven't done so already.
3. Turn OFF the A/C.
4. Lift up the handbrake and put wheel chock the wheels.
5. Start the engine.
6. Ensure the engine coolant temperature is more than 80 degrees.*
7. Put the gear selector into DRIVE.
8. Allow the engine to IDLE for 5 minutes.
9. Put the gear selector into PARK.
10. Allow the engine to IDLE for 5 minutes.
11. Turn OFF the engine for 30 seconds.

Manual Transmission

1. Turn OFF the ignition.
2. Replace fuse no 29 if you haven't done so already.
3. Turn OFF the A/C.
4. Lift up the handbrake and put wheel chock the wheels.
5. Put the gear selector into NEUTRAL.
6. Start the engine.
7. Ensure that the engine coolant temperature is more than 80 Degrees.*
8. Allow the engine to IDLE for 5 minutes.
9. Turn OFF the engine for 30 seconds.

* To check the engine coolant temperature do the following
1. Turn OFF the car's ignition.
2. Hold down MODE and UP buttons on your trip computer.
3. While still holding the buttons turn ON the ignition so all the lights illuminate on the instrument cluster.
4. By using the MODE button you are able to flip through all the available information, when you get to TEMP just make sure it reads 80 degrees.

Hope this does the trick.

If you could let me know either way that would be great.

Cheers
Darren

Hey,
I'll try those tips tonight. Mine is a V6. I found the tip for checking all the instruments, voltages and temperatures online (listed below again for lack of confusion) and it works with my car. I got a shock when I skipped to the dashboard light test mode. The car beeped at me quite loudly and scared the crap outa me . Anyway i'll try those other tips to reset the 40K service and get back to u with results.

1. turn car off
2. press and hold mode and up
3. turn car to ignition
4. press mode to move between data sets

Hey guys,
I spoke with a Holden Engineer late last week. He said he wasn't sure and would look it up. I tried the first version that Garth posted:

**SNIP**
1. turn igntion off
2. hold down the trip computer's up and down arrow's together
3. turn ignition on while still holding down both buttons
4. after 3 or 4 seconds relase both the buttons up and down one's
5. press the mode button untill the service due screen appears on display (press it once only)
6. repeat step 2 untill a beep is heard (bout 3 seconds)
7. relese both buttons
8. turn car off and enjoy the lack of beeping and flashing service reminder
**SNIP**

That seemed to work ok. I haven't had the stupid spanner flash me yet. I was waiting for the my Holden dude friend to get back to me with info but he seems to be busy atm. As soon as I get that info i'll post again! Sorry again for not getting back to u guys sooner!

This is from a Holden tech.

***SNIP***
try this
ignition off hold up and down arrows on mode switch turn on ignition untill
beep heard
release arrows then press mode button then hold up and down arrow buttons
until beep heard
***SNIP***

I had my car back in today to have a idle problem fixed (spark plug lead 6 had heat shield twisted and needed popping back in - I was too lazy to check, car under warranty still) anyway I snuck arround the workshop and saw a dude resetting a car for it's 30K service and he did kinda the same thing... I could not hear the beeps but he looked like he was listening or waiting for something.

Hope this clears it up.
