This is Dylans instructions that he typed up when he did his climate upgrade with an extra step to fix the fan speed issue. This is for upgrading an executive loom (or none climate control loom as in S1 VN's)

I have now done two climate control upgrades - 1 with a statesman loom and now 1 with an Executive loom.

Cheaper to do the upgrade by not replace the loom - from my point of view anyway.

Edit #1 - added photo of the location for the sun sensor hole that needs to be drilled through the top of the dash (while its out:))

Edit #2 - updated the install doc.

Edit #3 - updated the install doc (step 26)

OK had the unit regassed on Wednesday and seem to have lost vaccuum to the red line some how.

The fan blows on all 3 speeds but the air comming out of the centre vents seems to be very random. I swapped the red and white vac lines over and the red vac line is dead - nothing. I swapped over the solinoid pack - same issue.

The car has cold air but not in your face on full blast as it should be - so just one more little issue to resolve - be it this heater box or a wire issue - not sure yet. (it did blown air to the centre vents when the A/C man gassed her up)

    Puzzled for now....... :(

OK switched the wires over that plug into the fan - it was going backwards :)

All fixed now - cold as Ice and the hot works too. Dylan's install notes missed joining the green and brown wire that was connected to the old standard heaterbox thermostat. Joind that up and away she went.

Job done - the 88 wagon has a fully working climate control installed. A big thanks must go to my younger brother for working over the electrical problems with me.

awwww man that took SO LONG :p I'm glad you finally figured it out though :)

There's nothing more frustrating than an entire project coming together, and then not working because one small detail is out of place.

    Pics now!

Yep - that it did. But other things got in the way at times:) The climate install notes will be updated tomorrow as a complete set of notes so the system will work with an exec loom.

Now for the 89 sedan........ should only take a day to do.:whistling

Yep that it was - but I could not budge the heater box from the fire wall full stop (spent a good half a day at trying to move it). To change the sensor over the heater box must come out far enough from the fire wall to get at the screws that hold the fan case. Just no way of getting to it. Also the std heater box is missing 1 mount for the air mix motor (needs 3). I've fixed up the broken ECC heater box I got for nothing using the good half from the standard box (not the air mix motor side). I did convert the standard heater box base to the 2 drain type from a VS single base. (the broken ECC box was from a VS and had a single drain oin the bottom)

So basicly if you want climate control in the old VN it's heater box out and replace. You cant use a standard box alone to do the job. But you can do it without replacing the loom.

Hello how are you mate? I have been following your instructions on this site regarding how to install a Climate Control to a VN and they are excellent so thank you very much for that! I was wondering if I could have an updated copy of your as I have encountered the exact same problem with the fan speed and I can't quite work out how to fix it. I have followed your instructions and your diagrams for the relay on page 3 of this forum and it seems to work a treat except for that fun speed only running at flat out! If you can suggest any fixes, that would be great as I think you have encountered all the problems and solved them in regards to retro fitting climate control! Thanks for your help and my email is brod400@hotmail.com my regards, Brod!

I have a photo of the relay re-wire some place.......

I'll go have a look. Bah the photos are on the home computer only.

Revisit step 25 and 26 from the install instructions and the photo in post 63. (thats what fixed the fan speed issue)

    Thanks for the help again!

I just have a couple more questions for you. The large black wire you run from the fan plug to the large red power wire from the relay, do you also swap this wire with the purple with yellow tracer from the fan power plug? The two wires that went to the thermostat from the old heater box, from and green from memory, do you just solder those two wires together? I have my relay wired up the same as your relay in post 63 but it has the problem as mentioned with the fan. Would I just play around with the wires that go the relay to sort this problem out? Thanks again, I really appreciate it.

Yes the brown and green from the old thermostat go together. (a/c wont kick in if you dont)

    I found 1 error in the notes. I had 2 at 87 -

Step 25: Re wire the Blower Fan Relay by connecting the black wire from the fan (very thick wire) to the red wire that was on relay spot No 30. Connect the yellow/black to spot No 86, Light green moves to spot No 85 and make a new earth to spot No 30 (what red was connected to). The violet/yellow stays on spot No 87.

I ran a new black earth wire to the relay because I did not know which wire it was (dash back in by this time).

The violet/yellow stays on 87. It's at the fan end that the violet/yellow and black get swapped over.

Thanks a lot for your info you have been really helpful. I will give your instructions a go tomorrow and see if I can get the problem sorted out. I will let you know how I go. At the moment I have the relay wired up the same as your photo in slide 63 but I will re check to make sure it is the correct. Thanks again for your help from Broderick.

When I had a look at that photo the yellow/black wire is not clear at all. I should do a colour drawing of the relay to back up the photo.

Hello again, yes I got all fan speeds working and am stoked! Thanks for all your help with this as I wouldn't have been able to complete the task without your top notch instructions! It actually ended up being that I hadn't attached the thick earth lead from the green climate control wiring harness to the chassis. As soon as I did that, it was working fine! Thanks again you are an absolute champion!
