Before anyone goes off saying "just buy an SS", i would like to point out that this is more like a project. So simply put, yes i could just buy an SS but i would rather convert a base model to an SS. Besides, used parts are really cheap here. Example: A good condition Ls1 engine off a 2003 commodore which has done only a little over 100,000 Km, with all the engine loom and accessories...$320. Labour charge for complete v6 to v8 swap including programming: $400. Buying an SS in good condition: $7200 (if you are lucky). Now that thats clear...what are the list of things to get in order to convert an ecotec 03 Vy to an 03 Vy SS. Im talking about a complete transformation where there would be ZERO difference between the converted executive and a stock SS.
Not correct! Just from what i know, there is the instrument cluster that is different. Leather seats, bigger rims, suppression... Therefore, just putting a v8 in is NOT a "complete" transformation...!
Mechanical: Engine Gearbox Tailshaft Diff Exterior differences: Front bumper Headlights Side Skirts Rear bumper Tail lights Spoiler Rims/tyres Suspension: Springs, shocks, swaybars Interior Instrument Cluster Radio Dash trim Steering wheel trim Interior door handles Handbrake trim Seats and door trim upholstery Pedals A,B and C pillar trims Roof lining Ive probably missed stuff
If your going to convert a exec into something why not go all out and make it into a GTS/Clubsport? At least then after all that work you'd have something different compared to all the other SS's in the UAE. PJDM1980
I'm thinking about doing this myself with my vx s and dropping a ls1 into it, paid bugget all for my s pack and you can sell off the stuff you pull out to save a bit of cash, I'm just looking for a written off manual ls1/2 vx/vy/vz to convert my 6 to a 8
There was a clean manual VX SS on JC not long ago I think he wanted $6000, I just don't see the value/sense in converting your VX S. PJDM1980
Parts my friend! Havent even seen a gts clubsport here let alone finding a wrecked one to get parts out of
Not a complete conversion but rather everything under the hood thats needed for the conversion (excluding radiator).
touche. still though, if a whole car is $7k-8k like the poster said, only a little less then here, a whole conversion for $320 is beyond rediculous. I'd be converting car's for a job.
