The brown stuff around the radiator cap could be the residue from the three tablets Holden recommended adding to the radiator coolant. Rumour has it they consist of compressed ground up walnut shell and are precautionary to sealed up any minor leaks that might occur.

My VT had the mayonnaise under the rocker gaskets. Cleaned them with degreaser. Tightened up intake manifold bolts, a couple were loose. 4 months later I no longer have mayonnaise under my oil filler cap, nor from the rocker area that was accessible to my fingers. Manifold bolts are on a low torque (16Nm) so they can loosen easily over time.

Doing the coolant change, as soon as I mixed the coolant in the bucket, it formed an oil slick. Must have used that bucket to wash a car in the past. Oil change showed fairly clean engine oil. saw a slight streak, but that would have been the stuff in the pan from before.

You are SO RIGHT about that. Just checked #9 & #2 (as per reference pic below) and they were finger tight.

Commonwhore always have slight sludge on cap.
As for Op intake gasket not that hard if ya confident. Pretty sure there's a how to on here. Just get a good quality kit.

Slight sludge on the cap, no way, never ever, well that is unless the heads or intake manifolds are on the way out.
This is mine all day and every day, radiator and everything cooling and heating replaced 4 years ago.

I am willing to bet if you took the LH rocker cover off, there will be actual coolant in the rocker area.

Seriously? Does Holden use 9.5mm intake manifold bolts?
I am trying to tighten them up but I can't find a socket in metric (or imperial) size. Does anyone know what they are supposed to be?
