Did my mechanic put in the coolant pellets after flushing and adding new coolant? Something i did not know to ask. He assured me that all is fine when I asked if there was anything I needed to do. I will have to ask him about that. What problems can occur if the pellets are not added?

Cheers

Bob.

I've only ever added them once in over 20 years of owning commodores and can't say I've ever noticed any problems.

I was told they are crushed walnut shells and are used to keep the crap off of the impeller in the water pump not sure if it is true or not.

The pellets are used to plug up microscopic holes in the alloy engine casting. If you aren't losing coolant then it's probably not an issue for you.

Use the pellets, Holden still sell them, they are used in new and old cars. THey also seal leaks around the waterpump, intake and head gaskets. For a normal leak they clot the area and swell/dry on the air side, around the hot areas, heads etc, it bakes and chars hard to seal minor leaks..... same as bars leak, but the pellets can be better. I use them with every change. Many manufacturers use similar products to stop the nuisance leaks during the warranty periods.
