That's the price difference in the US right now, I think is on the money.
We don't live in the US.
What do both cost to go buy in Australia right now?

Nismo that's competitive starts at $151.5k, still suggest Corvette is cheaper (as LHD) through luxury personal car import channel. Time will tell if the Corvette takes the title for bargain buy here when laws change as Ari (who?) and Dowling suggest, as it will for world's fastest volume production car. However I think the Corvette is more spectacular and has greater aesthetic impact at any price / speed.

$180k or thereabouts for GTR

$190 - $230k for Corvette, after taxes/conversion etc.

Bit of a biased view considering one is made and imported in RHD and the other has to be imported then converted.

Something not right in that video, a lighter car with more horses and torques should accelerate faster (assuming perfect traction). The old school spoiler is one thing, the other issue I heard mentioned was the tall gearing on the vette but a 7 speed gearbox should negate that once you get past the relatively long first gear. Regardless, something not right there.

In that video, the vette cornered better than the GTR, how does that work? RWD faster than AWD through a corner with all it's fancy gadgets???

Maybe it was a driver issue?

Found the answer. Vette has a 7 speed manual gearbox with 3.42 diff ratio, however 1st gear is only 2.28:1(very longggggggggg) and 4th gear is 1:1 with the last 3 gears been overdrive. So effectively you are still driving a 4 speed box with a couple of overdrive gears.

They probably should have tested the 8 speed auto box which looks to have a much better gear spread.

Data can be found here http://www.chevrolet.com/content/dam/Chevrolet/northamerica/usa/nscwebsite/en/Home/Vehicles/Performance/2015_Corvette_Z06/Model_Overview/02_pdfs/MY2015%20Corvette%20Z06%20Spec%20Sheet_web_lo-res.pdf

GT-R specs can be found here Nissan GT-R Overview, Specs
Which has a much better gear ratio spread 1st - 5th with 1 OD gear.

The Vette would start in what is almost the equivalent of 2nd gear in the GT-R........ and that is the answer to the problem.

No different than saying the Nismo is $50k more and using US prices.
Wait till Corvette is for sale from dealers here and compare.

What is the final drive ratio with the 8 speed auto though? id say in the late 2s?

The manual box in the Vette is all wrong. It'll do 66 mph in 1st gear and cruising on the freeway you're only pulling 1300rpm @ 66mph or 1400rpm @ 71mph. It's geared all wrong period.

1st-5th or 6th (been 1:1) should have been close ratio with only 1 or 2 OD gears.

first things first I'd change the diff ratio, something like 4.11's and it would go a lot better and still cruise economically.

The auto is geared (8th) for 71 mph @ 1400 rpm
