Im sure im not the first to post this thread topic

Been battling fuel economy issues, then bang... Found it

Left manifold cracked under middle spark plug

Is there any sealant I can use until I get around to replacing it

Wreckers sell manifold for 22 bucks, how much are they new

Is it easy to take off

It's only a few bolts and a gasket to change manifolds.

You can try some muffler/exhaust putty over the crack as a temporary solution, has worked for me before.'

If your going to replace them and are going new then I would just go extractors....would probably work out a similar price and you would get better economy and a little extra power.

I would just go a second hand manifold, just make sure it isn't cracked.....it's very common

VR? The last time I priced one new (which was some time ago now) I think they were about $360. There was a QLD company making replacements with a reinforcing web across where they crack for about half that. I have posted the details for that company on here (within the last 12 months?) so it should show up in a search. I don't know if the company is still around let alone still making the manifolds though.

Good luck finding one used that isn't already cracked (as ^). If you can get one for $22 take it!

Even though they don't use (or need, at least to seal) manifold gaskets, use one with the replacement because it allows the manifold and head to move relative to one another and reduces the thermal stress in the manifold.

If it's for a VS, then there's a heap of them around and they don't seem to crack as readily. VT-VY will also fit if you can plug the hole for the EGR pipe.

Mine cracked on my vs..
Gasket sealant was recommended by my mechanic..
Tried it and it just blew a bubble in the glue

So i got a second had one never had a problem.

#### me... You are bitching about $22??? Just buy the damn thing, inspect it closely to make sure it hasn't cracked too and fix it properly. The left manifold is dead easy to get to. The drivers one can be a pain if you have ABS but still not one of life's hardest jobs.

I'd recommend getting that stud out. Go to an exhaust shop and get them to if need be. If skilled enough they could weld a nut to it and remove that way.
Or you could drill it out and hope you stay in line.
