Hi all,

I have ordered a new starter, but before fitting it, I'm looking for suggestions on the cause and things to check so it doesn't happen again.

Looks like internal damage like something let go like a bearing and put pressure on the case making it crack. Seen this stuff happing to diesel generator starter motors.

Yeah, when I purchased the car and started fixing things on it, one of the things was using 2 of the correct bolts in the starter as opposed to what was in there when I purchased it.
After New motor goes in, I might pull the old one apart and look.

Only seen them crack through bolt holes when fitted with wrong bolts.
