Cramp says “Bring on Symmons Plains”

Steve Cramp and CVW Manta Racing are looking forward to the next round at Symmons Plains after the last round at Mallala.

The second round back from the spectacular incident that threatened to end the season began with a great qualifying session from Cramp at his home track. At one point the HSV had provisional pole position pending the results of a technical ineligibility charge against Gary Holt and Peter Floyd. The wash up of these put Cramp in 2nd position for Race 1.

The race started well with a strong start and maintaining second position until a brand new engine mount failed causing an oil cooler line to fracture. Cramp was forced to retire and this meant starting from the rear of the grid in Race 2.

This non-enviable position was short lived however with a top 3 finish. The CVW Manta Racing HSV succeeded in recording the fastest lap of the race and missed beating the track lap record by 0.02 of a second. The team were back and on fire!

Race 3 was an uneventful race for the entire field and Cramp finished in a strong 4th position.

The unfortunate part failing in the first race undoubtedly cost the team a top 2 finish for the weekend, but the results have moved Cramp into 6th position for the series ahead of the next round at Symmons Plains, where he holds the current lap record.

“The team recorded an outright win for that round last year’, said Steve. “We have every intention of keeping that record and repeating the result this year”.

Rod Duff, Team Manager and Chief Engineer echoed Steve’s words and added, “we really did rebuild that car in such a short time. That limited time came back to challenge us at Phillip Island, but, we still got the podium finish. The last two races here at Mallala have given us another opportunity to consolidate that work and the car is now running magnificently. There is absolutely no reason that we won’t be able to repeat our winning performance at Symmons Plains”.

CVW Manta Racing competes in Round 6 of the STS Australian Performance Car Championship at Symmons Plains, Tasmania on the 10th –12th of November.

Special thanks to the forums guys who dropped by and supported us over the weekend. See you Tasmanians soon!
