I have a 97 vt acclaim. the problem is when i put my foot on the brake the park lights come on, so every time i brake the parkers go on and off. so at the moment i have just been driving around with the parkers always switched on so i dont look like a dick flashing everyone while driving.

The other problem is the cruise control, which is linked in with the park lights problem. The crusie wont work if the parkers a turned on...but if i turn the parkers off the crusie will work (most times).

The only thing i could think of thats causing this is the switch on the brake pedal which disables the cruise control but i tryed unpluging this and it didnt change anything.

If anyone might know what the problem is or might have any ideas, that would be great. i dont want to take it into holden or an auto electrian just yet cause i dont want to pay an arm n leg for them to stuff around with it if one of you guys/girls my know what the problem is,
    cheers.

Sounds like a short with the brake light wire and the parking light wire. Does your brake light illuminate when you turn on the parkers? Also make sure you have a 2 filament globe in the brake light socket and not a single filament, that will cause problems.

You havent by chance replaced some of the light bulbs and have put in the wrong type so the base is acting as a short as a single filament is where a double one should be.

Yes, one of the filaments could be broken and touching the other.

    Thanks for the feedback guys.
I pulled the tail lights out and had a look. One of the bulbs was blown and when I took it out I found it at shorted and the little bit of plastic around the 2 contacts in the socket and was all melted and the socket was the causing the short out. All fixed now…

Thanks for the help n info, saved myself some time and money.
    Cheers
