Cruze dramas if anyone has any knowledge.

Gday everyone,

Just looking for some opinions on a 2011 Holden cruze which has just recently been over reving and there is a smell of something burning (this obviously isnt my car but i friend in Brisbane, they are female and i asked if she could see if it was oil or coolant or knew what was burning to which i got I dont have a clue! )

Just wondering if anyone mechanically minded had some ideas, only symptoms so far as above is the over revving and the burning smell.

Auto Transmission slipping?, causing the engine to over rev, and burning the clutches inside the transmission?
If the transmission has a dipstick remove it and smell for burning.
