CVW Manta Racing – Heading to Oran Park

Talk to Steve Cramp, driver and co-owner of CVW Manta Racing this week and you will find a paradox. He is quietly confident of success at the opening round of the Australian Performance Car Championship at Oran Park this weekend, but also bloody excited that it’s finally going to happen.

The team have spent the off-season putting hours of work into the car that proved so successful towards the end of last year. “ We have gone through a full major car rebuild. It is quick and we’ve ironed out the major bugs that were apparent during the launch last year”, was the succinct comment from Team Manager, Rod Duff.

Steve, Rod and the team have put the HSV VZ Series II through its paces recently at Mallala and while they weren’t likely to give away exact times, it would suffice to say that the car tested sensationally. “It performed better than it has ever done. “ said Steve. “ We were testing on old tyres for most of the session and the times set on those would have placed us on the front of the grid the last time the category was here”. It is apparent that the team has achieved major forward leaps in both engine performance and chassis balance. The have also made the decision to start the season on Michelin tyres as part of the overall strategy.

The team is well aware that Oran Park traditionally favours the All Wheel Drive marques such as the Evos, Subarus and even to some extent the BMWs, but they believe their preparation will give them the longevity and consistency to finish toward the top - attrition may play a big part in the results for this opening round.

Rumour around the traps are that CVW Manta Racing and last year’s category winner Floyd Motor Sport are the one’s to beat this year. With all the preparation and determination that Steve Cramp and company are demonstrating, it’s not surprising…..

CVW Manta Racing is very excited to introduce new sponsor Walter Australia Pty Ltd as a major partner. They are also proud to have as part of the CVW Manta Racing team for 2006, Toll Tasmania, TRG Transport Logistics, DuPlessis, Motul, Bilstein, City Holden, DC Signs, Triple A Crash Repairs and of course CVW Engineering.

Bring on Round 1 - Oran Park, 6th – 7th May!

See you trackside…..
