Ok so I just threw out the original battery vent hose I've now realised, it must've been disconnected or originally plugged into the rear passenger wall to the tray (is this even a thing?)
Mechanic and battery guys said I didn't need one so it didn't even cross my mind that was what it may have beenuntil today as I've read a few threads and thought there was a water drain hole from a part of the tray through the cab down out the bottom under the passenger seat).

I had someone helping as I was failing at replacing the two drains from outside the back window going down through the tray then back then out, they were aluminium tubes that were so unprofessional I didn't think they were OEM and tossed them when I found them rolling around on the floor under the tub - by the way the fish tank hose mod I've seen here I think, I didn't find successful at all because they need to be fixed at the top somehow and any protrusion defeats the purpose of replacing them as water will not flow down them if they're sitting up even a few mil...and the plastic shrouds also cover them then....man I'd better make 2 threads.) The threads detailing this also have pics of them draining through the wheel well that look different to my ute - it has black hoop like sound deadening or so etching and holes that are smaller or non existent. I think.

So my helper swore the hole that the battery hose attached to the Gromit below the passenger seat fit into the wall of the cab into under the big plastic part of the tray (pic) which was an inch or more deep in water as the water backs up in there and can't escape either side until it's that deep by which time it starts to evaporate and form mud which makes things worse. So I thought the wet carpet was from coming through the hole into the cabin. we plugged the blocked up nozzle of the battery drain hose into said hole....

So the battery - I can't find the gas vent holes as I'm not a midget and the battery seems to be a bit bigger than OEM as was the previous one which didn't have the hose attached either....are there 2 in this model and do we need to be venting one, 2, blocking, etc? Maaan. Pic of battery - excide 80ah 750cca model din 66

Ok so going by the info on the official site it looks like the battery is T S (totally sealed) so no vent hose necessary, the way I'm reading it anyway
