DANGEROUS problem with Power Steering/Wheel not turning , skips, thuds

Bolt fix will set you back about $50 if a mechanic is reasonable and doesn't charge you a full hours labour for a 10 minute fix....

Rack.....Ring round for the price on a new rack and add about 2 hours labour (approximately $130 P/H)+ a wheel alignment.

Universal....Again, ring round for pricing

Well...jacked it up and we both saw broken steering rack..

Mechanic guy is asking me $200 for second hand rack and $200 for labor and said it may be bit more...Fair? ripoff?

$130 P/H for labor??? daaaamn that is expensive isnt it?

Anyway is this acceptable or shoulf I go see

Be thankful you did not lose total control and kill people.

So how do you think you damaged it, as that sort of thing does not just appear without a cause.

Do you have to pay for premises rent, insurances of all flavours, utilities bills, staff wages, tools & equipment etc etc etc ?

$100p/h is common, doesn't mean the apprentice who is doing the job is getting paid that. It's a business that's there to make money and people here are willing to pay for it, unfortunately is just the way it is. Price for a supplied second hand rack seems pretty reasonable.

That is really cheap, buy it and supply to you mechanic..
