Long story short, i've got a 7" DVD kenwood headunit that's had the face of it completely shattered..It still works, but only through the remote.. Touch screen is completely stuffed. I've spoken to a couple people that reckon it'd be cheaper to buy a new headunit than to repair this one.. so..

I want opinions, Which headunit to buy next?

Too be honest i got over the whole "in-car-dvd" thing about a week after installing it in the first place (and this was almost a year ago). I just never used it! not even music vids...It was only ever a show off to friends factor..

So I've thought of going back to a singledin HU..

I'm looking at spending up to $400 on a singledin HU, Which should i buy?

P.s If anyone is interested in buying a damaged 7" DVD headunit, pm me :)

it will probably be useful to list what sort of features you want out of a headunit
    USB?
    iPod control?
    bluetooth?
    tuning features? etc

maybe also tell us what else is in the car, ie how many amps? etc

Sorry i was pretty tired when i wrote this, and yep your right! it would be useful.

Well, USB Ipod control is a necessity! I do not even own a single CD anymore.
    I'd need to have a minimum of 3 Pre-outs
    Bluetooth is NOT needed.

    Here's what i'm running:
    All MTX gear:

2x 400RMS 12" sub in custom made fibreglass box
    1x 600RMS monoblock
    1x 600RMS 4 channel (150per channel)
    150RMS front splits
    80RMS rear splits
    120RMS rear shelf 6,9"

    Heres a suggestion:

Pioneer P5150UB, requires additional Ipod cable for integration. But has 7 band Graphic EQ, Subwoofer control (3 pre-outs) etc.

Looks alright, I used to have the pioneer 6050UB and traded it in for my current one. It was alright..

What brands would you suggest (other than pioneer) to look at..

Out of personal experience, i won't touch fusion.

the pioneers seem to be looking like pretty good bang for buck these days
for ipod control apparently the alpines are supposed to be the best, though i wouldnt know, i will never own an ipod
you could also look into the likes of clarion. i would personally stear clear of eclipse as their future is uncertain
i think holdenboy's recomendation looks like your best option

If you dont own a CD, then would you consider going to a "digital receiver" type head-unit (no CD player)?
If so, the Alpine iDA-X200 maybe one to consider, with a RRP of $399 you should be able to get it for around $300-$350, but one of the negatives is the sound tuning capabilities, with only bass and treble adjustments (no frequency choices). It does have 3 preouts though.

EDIT: That Clarion looks very different, certainly not like their usual head-units (didnt like them much). Cheap too, good suggestion wraith ;)

I do like the look of that Clarion! Thanks for that suggestion Wraith.

As for that particular headunit, does it have the option to play with the frequencies?

    I don't understand what this is :p

Yes fully customisable EQ. Also there is less to go wrong as it has no mechanisms inside. We sell them all the time as the roads up here are death on normal CD players.

Wow that's a great price. Yeah it's a bit of a weird head unit to use to begin with as it has no buttons but apart from that it's pretty nifty. Glad I could help :beer chug:

Na it's actually about the right price. There's nothing to be made in them.
