Why not just fit a transmission cooler and cool it a day. Most have them already. My SS came stock with one, I removed it after I fitted my ramjet and it was undriveable the transmission overheated all the time.

So I just fitted a newer one lower down and problem solved temps are always well within range.

The main thing with transmission stuff is not to let the tranny oil temps exceed a certain range or it stuffs the oil....... and then the transmission.

The pan is serving two functions. Obviously to hold more fluid, but also to reduce starvation by means of the filter pickup sitting lower/deeper in oil. Oil cooler is complementary not instead of, unless you need every inch of road clearance.

Speaking of which, has anyone installed a B&M HiTek transmission cooler with fan, part# BM70297 ? I'm about to install a cooler and it seems the business if it will fit. Cooler/fan/switching thermostat and a low temp bypass (internal) are all wrapped up into the one product, it seems hard to beat for the price which is around $400 delivered. Let me know if there's a better option.

On the clearance issue I tried to get some side shots of mine. Pan peeks out a bit but still not lower than the Exhaust couplings hanging low.

Also called a Camaro pan and a 6l90 (HSV LSA/ ZL1) filter. Pan and filter kit avail from Pace Performance in US, additional filters really cheap locally from Repco.

Thanks for that, I'll need to do the math - maybe cheaper to pickup the pan on ebay and source gasket / filter locally.

    Cheers

I’ve purchased the filter and gasket (camaro replacement) through holden in vic

Filter is apparently the same as a Colorado -dealer didn’t carry it but after ordering it, had it in my hand that afternoon

    Thanks for all the help.

$ 108.59US Total (inc. delivery) for all 3 parts in the kit - RockAuto.com

I would forget using PACE, seemed uninterested in the emails and overcharging for postage.

Glad your found a way, and do the routine to reset adapts / self-clean.
BTW I have used Pace a couple of dozen times and they are huge by comparison to Aussie ops, my guy on the inside is Greg Was, who has a G8 and can provide a more personal service. PM me for details, because through Pace we can organise some great deals.

Believe that "Adapts" only apply to the 4L60-E - THe V8's get the 6L80 and does not require any programming after a fluid change. SOme info on the Adapts:

    SERVICE FAST LEARN ADAPTS

After installing the replacement transmission and ECM/TCM calibrations are complete, perform a vehicle Service Fast Learn Adapts procedure:
    1. Verify vehicle is on level ground when performing relearn procedure.
    2. Verify drive wheels are blocked and parking brake is applied.
    3. Verify engine is idling at 0% thtottle with no external engine rpm control.
    4. Verify transmission fluid temperature (TFT) is between 158°F and 239°F.
    5. Perform three (3) cycles of PARK – REV. When complete, shift vehicle back into PARK.
    6. Initiate Service Fast Learn Adapts procedure using scan tool.
    7. Follow directions on scan tool data display.
    8. When procedure on scan tool is complete, exit to main screen and shut down scan tool.
    9. Unplug scan tool from DLC.
    10. Shut off engine.
    11. Restart engine.

Service Fast Learn Adapts procedure is now complete.

    GARAGE SHIFT ADAPTS

Next, the Garage Shift Adapts must be completed:

    1. With engine still running and vehicle still secured, verify transmission fluid temperature is still above 86°F.
    2. With engine at idle, shift from REVERSE to DRIVE and leave shift lever in DRIVE for five (5) seconds. After five seconds, shift back to REVERSE and leave shift lever in REVERSE for five seconds. Perform this procedure twenty (20) times (R-D-R-D-R-D...). The shift transitions need to be directly between DRIVE and REVERSE – no stopping in Neutral.
    3. With engine at idle, shift from NEUTRAL to DRIVE and leave shift lever in DRIVE for five (5) seconds. After five seconds, shift back to NEUTRAL position and leave shift lever in NEUTRAL for five seconds. Perform this procedure ten (10) times (N-D-N-D-N-D...).
    4. With the engine at idle, shift from NEUTRAL to REVERSE and leave shift lever in REVERSE for five (5) seconds. After five seconds, shift back to NEUTRAL position and leave shift lever in NEUTRAL for five seconds. Perform this procedure ten (10) times (N-R-N-R-N-R...).

It may take several days of driving for the transmission to fully adapt.
A final system scan is required after the road test or if problems are detected during the test drive. If codes are present, compare to original code scan recorded prior to transmission replacement.

This is going from shallow to medium fluid sump so volume / temp will change, fills are affected. Good idea, won't hurt.

I am not saying it would not hurt am just saying it may not be possible with the 6L80. Not seeing any reference to it in the service manual that it is even possible. WHat trans do yo guys get there with the V8?
