anyone who has done kapooka before got any tips or advice to make it easier or anything to watch out for?
Don't ever volunteer for anything Never say yes when asked about having a motorbike licence or being a former cadet Never say "but Sergeant, that's not how we did it in cadets" Be the grey man, don't come first or last Don't be gobby Pull your weight and take responsibility for everything you do, never be the jack Give it everything you've got Focus more on having a good time with a good bunch of people than gunning the thing Check out aussiearmy.org/forums. It's a shame I'll never go there as a recruit.
You have 2 ears, 2 eyes and 1 mouth. Use them in that order. I think the catchphrase is "Big eyes, big ears, small mouth".
Heres a good bit of advice, when the rock lobsters ask 1. raise your hand if you have had enough, I suggest not raising it 2. Ask if you have had enough I suggest saying no. Saying or doing opposite to this generally results in pain.
Are you sure you've never been. Very good advice there. They'll pick your cadet habits and 'encourage' you to change your ways, the not come first or last and not volunteering seem odd to most but they are words of wisdom, Be a moocher and it will follow you, the ADF is small and word travels, six degrees of separation drops to 3. You will meet great mates who are going through the same thing. Don't listen to the little voice who on day 3 says 'why am I here? I don't want to do this sh#t' cause really you do, the outside world is tough. why arn't I in bed?
A long, long time ago! It shows my age, but I was at Portsea a month after Harry Holt went on the eternal swim. It was about 2:00am, and we were on the beach under the "Hill". The question was, "Are you hot". Answer "no". Response, "Well, you are not working hard enough. Run up the hill, and back again." Get back to the same question. I'm not dumb, don't make the same mistake twice, answer "Yes". Response, "Well we don't like people who think they are better than others. Run up the hill, and back again". Time merged after that, but I think I traversed the "Hill" about six times that night, as well as other "advanced training activities". In those days, there was no right answer. Just suffer the pain. Things are different now, so you might be able to come up with an answer to avoid the pain. Back then, the initiation process got you no matter how smart or smart-a**e you were! PS. Anyone else suffered on the "Hill"?
trust me 02dubh... u get treated pretty bad at recruit school no matter what service but once your in its sooooooooo much better! awesome job and as someone else said u meet mates for life!
