Local dealer has a lot of demos for sale at the moment. Most only seem to have about 30km on the clock. Are these figures likely to be real or is dealer somehow winding back the odo.
If they've got a few like that then they probably rotate them to keep the k's low. Demo's will have low k's. Exec driven will have higher as they're usually give to salesmen/D.P's etc to take home.
The majority of demos are undriven. Holden provides incentives to dealers, usually at the end of the month, to register cars as demos in order to increase their number of registrations reported in the VFACTS. Dealers also get a number of demo allowances per quarter. These are on a use or lose it basis. So if they don't register a certain number of demos, then they're basically not getting the most of out Holden's demo program.
Demo SSV ute at my dealer for sale, 100klms on the clock. Also has a VF Walkinshaw 310 wagon, looks horn:smoking:
My non demo had 80km at delivery time. As explained above, Holden give dealers incentives to register cars as demos. I've had a dealer offer me a car that they would demo register to reduce my price
My SV6 was a factory order for one of the options I ticked (LSD). It arrived with 3km on the clock. It was built the same month. My HSV had 80 on it but it was built 9 months before I took delivery, but at $20,000 under the RRP, I was more than happy with 80kms on the dial
They demo-ed it from the delivery truck to the back of the yard, then shuffled it around a few times.
It's not just Holden. Dealers have a budget as far as sales numbers go for each particular variety of car, EG, Commodore, Colorado, etc, and each demo is counted in that quota as it is registered. They also have a maximum amount of demo's they can license in each sales period so they will license the maximum amount to hit their target if they have to. Just because it's a demo doesn't mean it's bean actually demo'd. Just means you are buying a registered car and not a "new" car for licensing purposes.
I bought a demonstrator for work that had nearly 9,000km on it once. Manufacturers will give dealers rebates for demonstrators and thus many will register a demo at the end of a month (if the manufacturer wants to hit a kpi or something for the month). Many of those cars will be registered, parked and sold with virtually 0 km on it. From memory Holden could (well used to) be able to zero the odo (once) if the car had under 100km on it to zero out the delivery km. Not sure if they still do this - my last car was in 2011 and it had 1km on it so it definitely happened then.
My vf, which i bought as a demo had 2,600km's Been a demo for approx 9 months. got mine for $35k with 20" wheels, sat nav and full tint.
I bought my first SV6 (MY09) during the early days of the GFC, when dealer finance was in a mess. We couldn't strike a deal, so the dealer asked could they register one of their in-stock vehicles as a demo one day, and I buy the next. Thus my demo had 2 km on the clock and had used up one day's rego. My MY11 was also a demo, but with 800 km on it and two months rego used. Paid $30,298 after my GM Card discount. My MY12.5 was new, at $32,462 drive away (after GM Card and Holden Scramble rebates) with sat nav. My MY14 was also a demo, with 5,000 km on the clock and five months rego used. This was the bargain of the bunch at $26,990 drive away after my GM Card rebate.
