Should be using HPR15 not 30, according to Penrite themselves, we have 15 in our VN and it runs perfect, not any foreign noises.

    Penrite Recommendations

i have hpr 30 in my vn so does me parents vn and me sisters vp and mates vs and haven't hap a prob with it...neither know they recommend hpr 15. In fact the guy at super cheap said that they (penrite people) recommend hpr 15 but he said that hpr 30 is the stuff every vn-vs owner going in there, is putting in there car...a little thicker but these engines are getting on in age and need it...plus i don't think it would cause the engine to knock...i think there is some bearing damage or the oil pick up is clogged

Yeah, I agree, shouldnt be causing a knock, though could cause a tick at the most.

So long as your oil light isnt coming on(low oil pressue) and there isnt any significant leaks anywhere you should be fine...

Mine has a massive dent in it too... i think that it is a very common thing with the 'ol V6.

    aZk.

mine was actually a 20mm not a 30mm dent as originally stated. I have not fixed it and its been over 4 months so i think I'm in the clear. If your a good welder you could try welding a nut on and pulling it out with a large bolt...

Perhaps something like panel beaters use to pull dents; a mushroom shaped thing like a washer on a stick could be used - soldered on. I think that welding might result in oil burning and scaling inside the (emptied) sump, soldering might allow the heat to be kept low enough. Applying the force against a piece of wood laid across the edges of the sump reservoir would avoid distorting the sealing surface.
