^^ What Cuda said! I've found reading your posts over the past couple of years very useful and appreciative that someone in the trade freely gives up so much info!
Thanks guys. The way I see it, with high end detailing being such a small industry in this country, with no regulatory body, it's important that people be aware that there is a network across the country of genuinely skilled detailers who are, as a whole, more than happy to offer general advice. The info in this thread (and others) is, as far as I'm concerned, part of general maintenance that anyone is capable of doing. And it's pretty clear that everyone here cares about their vehicles. With so much misinformation floating around, you'll find most detailers are happy to offer similar info. Detailing (vs valeting) is often not a cheap exercise, so the last thing anyone wants is to have to fork out to fix issues that have arisen from dodgy info that could easily have been avoided, on top of what actually needs to be done. These are day to day things that, if kept in check, don't take a great deal of time to do and make maintaining a car so much easier. Helping with the day-to-day is going to increase faith in the industry, which is so often hurt by hacks and volume outlets. Increased faith in the industry is going to result in a wider potential client base, meaning more work for us. So really, it's in our best interests to put a bit of effort into supporting the enthusiast scene in order grow our industry. /hippie feelgood spiel
What a thread! I was in my local Super cheap today to get some degreaser and I saw the Bowdens Wheely Cleaner and it reminded me of Cuda's original post so I bought some. OMG!!!! Its changed my life lol... Threw everything else I had in the bin immediately and now ill look forward to cleaning wheels. Unbelievable!!!! Cheers Cuda
I noticed today I have wiped some Maguire's leather cleaner and conditioner on the black plastic shroud around my tacho & speedo. I can see that has leached into the plastic grain creating a shine spider webbing effect. Does anyone know how I might clean this off? it looks darker and shinier than the surrounding plastic. Cheers all.
You should be able to clean it up pretty well with some all purpose cleaner. You might need a soft brush to get into any texture. Try and keep it out of the instrument cluster though.
Thanks Tinny! Back to Supercheap / Autobarn. So do I just look for all purpose cleaner in the auto cleaning section?
So I left bug and tar remover on my mirror and its ruined one. Is it fixable? I bought replacement mirrors all ready, I was going to get the old ones colour coded, but the bastards don't come apart intentionally. Also selling with Carbon fiber scalps $240 for the pair, the scalps do not come off.
With those spots on the black plastic. I had the biggest pelican **** all over my car. I cleaned it off as soon as I got home and luckily there was no damage to the paint (thanks to collinite) but it stained the plastic roof rails on the wagon a little (could not be cleaned off). I wiped them down with carpro eraser and then put on DLUX and it completely covered the staining, left a uniform black shine and its actually lasting unlike any 'dressing'.
Cheers to Cuda for recommending the Bowdens bug & tar remover, quickly tried some tonight and works so so well, easily 30 times better than the Mecguiars one which did absolutely nothing. Thanks mate.
Yeah no prob's at all Sandman just sharing what I found. It's good stuff, just like their Wheely Clean. I am still trying to clean that Meguiars bug and tar crap out of my shiny black Redline grill. The **** is in every nook and cranny and doesn't want to budge. I'd prefer the bugs. Grrrr! Cheers
Yeah I'm already using the Wheely Clean, Tyre shine and wax and have found them all really good. Fantastic value for money they are. Especially compared to Meguiars for the products I've tried.
I thought I'd post up a few pic's of what a few hours, a bit of elbow grease, and some Bowdens products can do. This looks better than when I picked it up off the showroom floor! Oh and before anyone asks, I'm not on the Bowdens payroll, I just like finally finding reasonably priced car care products that do what they say the will do!
Hi Chaps, TinSnips mentions an APC called "Simple Green." I can say for an APC it's also a great degreaser. If your environmentally inclined and don't like nasties down the storm water or on the grass...maybe the youngsters give you a hand to detail it is friendly on the skin. Not friendly on carbon or oil build up.
Thanks again Tinsnips, fix with some Mequires dash and trim restorer. but allready replaced mirrors with new and got some chrome scalps for a change.
Hi everyone, Guys I let my Mrs wash my car when I was away with work and she has left scrub marks in 3 places on the car. looks to me like she was scrubbing tar marks off the lower door and has used a kitchen sponge to try to rub off. anyway the big question is how do I fix it? it is not deep scratched looks like rubbed clear coat.. photos will be uploaded hopefully tonight when I get home. thanks in advance for any advice.....
