Side lights - aka Park lights. And headlights which you then use the dip switch on the floor.

Picked up some brake parts today. I should be able to finish assembling the brake system now (and maybe even fill and bleed too)
    IMG_20200506_212548.jpg
Lets see what I can make from that mess of lines.

I did try my first flare too. Seems this tool should be able to make bubble and double flares which is great (as I will need both)

Both rear lines got a flare for the outer ends, a fitting on first of course. A bit of re bending (around a 52mm socket is a nice arc) and fitted them both.
So apart from 4 small securing bolts, the rear lines are in and ready for fluid.

I should note that the rear lines were a good shape, but previous owner must of cut the wheel cylinders off because of jammed fittings. So therefore the lines were an inch or so short. Hence the re-bending and new fittings.

Looking down on the swivel housing:
    IMG_20200509_152338.jpg
Yeap, one line cut, 2 flares and a couple of bends. Fits nice though.

Not long after this I broke the snap-on flare die (borrowed from a mate) , then broke the tube cutter (from the same kit).
On top of surgery yesterday after finding out my freckle/mole/whatever was malanoma I had to just walk away.
Bit of a **** few days - but hey, small progress.

Oh, also hoping to track down a 2nd hand P38 rangie steering box and all defender steering shaft/wheel intermediate shaft etc for hopefully a reasonable price and get the steering sorted once and for all.

    X2

    Hopefully got it early enough.
Got a mate who's had a few cut out over a couple of years , right into his triathlons = hasn't stopped him out every day running, swimming or cycling.

Yeah, cut it out a month ago, but tests came back bad. So cut again to take a wider safety margin (which sucks behind your ear as you can hear EVERYTHING they are doing). Also since I am a known risk now, they took out two other suspects while the knife is out - one on shoulder/neck and one half down my back.
Now for 6monthly checks for 2 years and then yearly until 5years before I am off of the books.
Atleast I'm not ignorant and dying 6months from now on my 36th birthday I suppose.

Anyways, purchased a cheapo flaring kit today. Definitely not the same quality as the snap-on kit I broke, but played on some spares a little and then made a reasonable bubble flare to start my next line.

    Dam , = serious = stay positive.
Think positive = a mate = at similar age had testicular cancer = huge scare and yeah similar on books for 5 years after , = looks all good so far !!

Yeah = life is precious and we take it for granted alot of the time.

Good news is, when the doc said be cautious in the sun and stay indoors, I turned to the wife and said "it's best I buy another project once the truck is finished"
I think she is on board. :)
And yes, positive outlook and appreciating the important things in life is what it is all about.

    Fingers crossed for you.

I've lost count of the number of things my father inlaw (80) has had cut out of him over the last 30 years I've known him. So many years in the sun, surf clubbing, surfing, running marathons etc before the realisation that it was a bad thing to do.

I've also got a mate that has had testicuar cancer twice so now teste free.

The great thing is that they both live to tell the tale.

Purchased a $37 flaring, cutting and deburring kit that does 7 pipe sizes.
It is noticeably average compared to the snap on kit, but oh well. I'll buy a good flaring kit one day.
    Progress continues (slowly)
    IMG_20200515_152109.jpg

Hopefully have a lead on my required steering parts too.

    Finished flaring.
And honestly considering throwing the flaring kit in the bin. It's like driving an 80s barina after a week in a late model calais. Or more like having to ride a bicycle in the cold and rain compared to how it will be driving this truck once it's finished. Still requires work to drive, but less effort for a superior result.

Anyway, enough comparisons until I have further updates.

It is a curse = as a tradesperson on tools , and home , etc , mechanic/ panel beater / restorer = quality versus cost= as a tradesperson want to buy the best ( for real use ) , versus buy cheaper because = only going to be used a couple of times

Brake lines on front drums are done.
    IMG_20200517_164503.jpg IMG_20200517_164555.jpg
I might re-jig the front lines from distribution block to the flexi lines you can see in 2nd picture. Still not sure on that. But will probably finish steering before looking at that.

    Forgot to also add:
    - starter motor is fitted.
    - LH front fender got a degrease and wash. And partial disassemble. As well as dummy fit to eye ball position /interference.
    - skip back to page 1 /2 and turns out Losh is correct, rear axle is a Dana 60 (salisbury)

Nah, think I asked if it has a D44? D60, that's the next one up, mate you don't get much stronger than that in a 4WD wagon. You'd have no trouble running 36's on a D60.

    Good to know.
Still running 31's from memory (picture on the last page) but makes sense having a stronger diff on the larger heavier models which can carry more load.
