But I cannot fully assemble the truck and then disassemble for paint. This was supposed to be a complete truck that was pulled down for chassis work, which I then just needed to reassemble.
If only it was that easy though.

I'm fine for doing the odd paint touch up later on, so no real stress.

Bigger hole = brakes master/booster fit

Although I supposedly need to dummy fit the r/h fender for clearance.

Found the pin hole leak. But ran out of time to fix it.

Never updated you all on the fuel tank.
I braised up the pin hole leak in the side, but when my mate was braising back up the factory join between tank and mount bracket on tank, it pulled and cracked. So now a more major job, but will get to that another day.

In other news:
My brother had a spare '89 rs legacy steering wheel which looks like I will use:

No need for the factory big boat wheel with power steer conversion.

Also had a local machinist magician mod the toyo steering box lower arm to take a stock Land rover tierod end. This is a big help:

These are all small pieces of the bigger puzzle, but we are getting there.

Looking at spinning the truck back around (with working steering this time) and doing more on the front half before getting back to the paint booth.

You will see the landcruiser (I think) steering box in lower left of the photo. Which I need to work out in and out fluid sides of it.

On this note, turning the steering box while sorting other stuff, managed to squirt fluid out of rear fitting, so logic says that is the return. And I will plumb it up that way.

Update, last owner has mounted this steering box in the wrong place, as now left is right and right is left. Solution is to put arm rearward of box, but this will have less desirable angles and may interfere with bump stops etc.

But despite that, we turned it around again (with help from family) so I can continue working on the front.

Update picture:

Brake booster mounted (m/cyl on order). Powersteering belt in the correct length (second attempt) purchased, fitted, tensioned.
I made some temporary brackets to hold the steering shaft. Everything may move if the box moves though.

6months ago tonight I was on the road to pick up this truck.
Basically sat like this:

But 20hours later it was across the island and all strapped up in my shed like this:

And in the 6 months of previous posts in this thread, it tonight looks like this:

My most immediate to-do list includes:
FIX STEERING SO IT WORKS CORRECTLY - which may include remounting the steering box further forward on chassis.
Weld tail door frame cracks and prep full door for repaint.
Modify drivers front wing to fit steering and prep for paint
Rear doors and front door tops prep for paint (1 door dented)
Afix glazing to drivers side rear tub panel.
Pull otherside tub panel and de-glax / prep for paint.
Move servo motors of front seats higher in seats and then mount seats. I won't wire these up until after the truck is a driver.
Need to fix fuel tank, refit, and run fuel lines.

After that I will start wiring up and getting the motor to crank / start /run.

I'm WAY behind schedule for this build. But also 2 kids under 2 limits my qty of work on the truck, and all the little surprises along the build stretch it out quite easily.

I ain't finished yet guys. So stay tuned.

Update. I can't count.
The previous post was 7months of updates. Lol.

In other news Happy 50th birthday truck. Have some brakes:

Master cyl, front shoes, front wheel cyls, hardware, springs, drum screws.

Started fitting wheel cylinders, and if I understand drums (with leading/leading set up) then these backplates are on the wrong sides (as at present will be trailing /trailing)
So might whip wheel bearings off (again), hubs off, backplates off, and swap them side to side. While there I'll need to set up steering stops correctly and other such stuff that looks like axle was thrown together rather than built correctly.

Once again, another 3 steps backwards to take a step forward.

Swapped backing plates side to side and fitted up wheel cyl's, springs and pads. Also set angle of pads and flipped hub so lock grove is on top.

R/H side had a broken bolt (one of the 6 in the centre of above picture), which my mate cleverly removed.

Then realised those 6 bolts should be on lock plates which I only have one of (need 3 each side as they tie the bolts to pairings). And also need to pull apart further to put gaskets in which may be missing.
Another few steps back, but also a few leaps forward.
