Yep, low km ones from the wreckers are a better option than basically any of what is available elsewhere. With the only exception being a factory gen replacement, only available from Holden now, but you'll bork at the price at about $450 last time I enquired.

I understand the reason for heat sink paste although, why do you need to apply when this wasnt applied from factory ?
12v electronics always run hot.

Over time natural heat conduction between the module and mounting plate reduces due to corrosion, dirt etc. This could lead to the module frying.

The heat paste improves heat dissipation and improves surface contact. It also prevents any non conducting **** from reducing heat conduction.
