2004 Vy Holden Commodore Executive s2 3.8l V6 auto
Abit stuck, I've got a 2004 Vy Commodore Exec s2 auto 3.8l V6. I've just bought a second hand LSD out of a 2004 Vy Commodore, my understanding was they are all interchangeable which I've found out isn't true. I've only just realized that the diff flange on the LSD is a 6 bolt and the tail shaft is a 3 bolt.

My question is, is it easier/cheaper to do the following:

A. Change out the diff flange on the lsd to a 3 bolt?

B. Change the tailshaft to a second hand 6 bolt. If so what tailshaft would work and would it take any modifications?

C. Just take the loss and get a whole new 3 bolt LSD?

The 2nd one is from an earlier model. VY uses the 3 bolt style for both the V6 and V8 models. The 6 bolt flange was the style of coupling used up until VX V6 which was the change over model.

You could mate a vx rear half and vy front half tailshafts to make this work with the earlier diff. Might as well replace the centre bearing and cv for piece of mind

Or just find a VT tailshaft to suit and get rid of the donuts.

But if same ratio I'd look for a 3 bolt manual V8 lsd at 3.46 ratio and re set the Speedo.
