hey guys,

I bought 3 bottles of GM#92184900 diff oil from my local dealer as the Castrol website said it would take 2.3L, but the diff only took 1.3L.

Is this normal!??

edit: i have 15k on my car and the fluid was fair grey, with a light metallic (but could just be carbon from the clutches) swirl.

1.2/1.3 litres is correct.

Yep, will only get just over a litre in the diff, so 1.2 - 1.3 would be correct

Diff oil stinks and will look quite dirty - I've changed my ve out twice and looks dirty as hell each time

I was shocked how little oil it took compared to my old Dmax.
Since the fluid is cheap I will do it every 20k

With a TruTrac it is even less than a litre, around 900cc.

diff oil and the single gearing that does the most work but yet is prob the least serviced, should be done regularly like all oils as oil itself is a wearing part

Get mine done annually with transmission oil change, circa 35k. First change old mate said oil was black as, admitted though he doesn't see much diff oil in his line of work and couldn't ultimately comment if it was used or abused. I've never asked about a description since. Adds $10 in labour to my bill.

Hey guys,

I know it’s an oldish thread, looking to change the diff oil and deciding between Penrite pro gear 75w85 or the genuine GM oil.

Do you think the genuine stuff is best due to the LSD, however Penrite fluid is suitable for LSD but unsure if it’s best for the diff, it appears both are 75w85 weight oils.
