VS commodore exec series 2 live axle no abs
about to replace noisy diff in vs, and cannot remove flange bolts connecting tailshaft to diff on
my replacement diff that has remnant of cut tailshaft still attatched. So I have decided to cut them of with a grinder. Now if the same happens with the tailshaft on my car and i need to grind them off what replacement bolts are needed, as I inquired and they were said to be specialist bolts.
And any advice anywhere remotely connected to swapping a live axle diff would be greatly appreciated.
I have trolled extensively for associated posts but 2 things concern me
1 those bolts, and
2 the rear springs, will they be a problem ?
Thanks in advance

Why dont you just replace the centre that way you dont have to remove the whole diff housing.?

I thought I was choosing the easiest way, as I thought the centre replacement was a delicate operation, whereas live axle replacement seemed easy enough.

in terms of physical effort, there's more involved in replacing the whole axle, but there's more knowledge needed to replace jut the centre (shimming the pinion correctly)
but at the same time, changing the whole housing you also run the risk of the new housing having bent axles or stuffed wheel or diff bearings

All done. The nuts that secure the flange bolt are locked in position against the flange for the first few turns, so the bolt only needs to be turned at first. No problems there.
The springs were no problem either.
6 hour job for a novice, sounds a lot quieter.
