I'm thinking about getting my VR lowered, and what checking the clearance between the guard and where the tyre will be, and have noticed that there is more clearance on the left side than the right? Whats happening and what do i need to do and how much will it cost? Thanks *Sorry, it's a VR series 1 with live rear axle **And it has developed a 'clunking' sound, when slowing down whilst turning. I could make the sound occur by moving the left wheel back and forth.
You need to fit an adjustable "Panhard Bar" available form all the major suspension suppliers. The factory bar is the same for all factory suspensions so as you can imagine the diff moves one way or the other depending on which springs are fitted.
either that or the panhard bar bushes are shagged (happens easily) it's not hard to replace them with nolethaine
Hey you just raised an issue that has stumped me for a while see my uncles old VK BT1 had that lean to the drivers side and when he looked at my VR BT1 the same thing I just thought it was fat coppers lol.
After reading the post and checking out my car, I have noticed a difference in the rear of my car also. There is approx a 1 cm rise on the left hand side, I will have a good look underneath and see what's goin on. Btw I also have fe2 susp
The Panhard bar won't affect ride height only where the diff sits side to side. Factory springs are identical L to R where as most of the after market Front springs come in pairs usually marked L or R as its the drivers side that carries the weight all the time. On the panhard bar, worn out bushes can cause the movement to one side, still a good time to buy an adjustable bar then your set for any ride height you choose .
If the bushes are worn replace them, if not worn the panhard rod can have a very slight bend in it..... this happens quite easily and more often then people realise. Pull it off (easy to do, only 2 nuts to undo) and look along it... it may be slightly bent. If so either replace it with a standard one... or if modifying suspension in the future fit an adjustable one as previously advised. Good luck!
Even easier way of checking it is to run a string line from center of bolt to center of bolt.... Saves taking it off if no need to...
