Sooo do you think the S on the SVU prefix could be taken as SENSOR type engine.

Does anyone have a VN/VQ with a SVU engine prefix and not have a knock sensor?

91 VQ with SVU prefix and i dont think i have a knock sensor.

That kills that then.

All the info I have is that they were in the VQ's.
Range from SVU597401 to SVU616075 (2055 samples)

They wouldn't make a different engine prefix for a bolt on sensor. As for the SVU prefix, I can't find anything on it.

I guess its one of those "in the 2 hard basket". I've looked for a while - so next thing will be to go over a VQ statesman that has the SVU prefix to see if anything turns up. Something in the books? like the how to read the VIN in the stato books - or are they the same as the VN books? It's a good puzzle the SVU prefix.

The VT VIN's have the first prefix of the engine type in it. So a VM engine prefix will have the M as the engine code in the VIN (the VN's just have a U to show the V8)

Great info - thanks. Did the SVU block have the same casting numbers (I have not checked this) as trhe VU block? - What is the casting number on the VU block?

The SVU block had the hole for the knock sensor already?

on the V6 block doesn't the knock sensor screw into the drain hole for the coolant jacket around the cylinders. i'd imagine you would do the same on the V8 blocks, i don't think there would a special boss cast into the block just for a knock sensor. my 2cents worth anyways
