Just finished doing trans fluid and coolant, time to do diff fluid.

Since the stuff is pretty expensive, how much litres will I need?

Any special tools required other than basic hand tools and an oil pump?

    Thanks

I think about 1.5 Litres, or their abouts.

I've been using the penrite phone app to give me the volumes on all fluid levels on all cars.

Very handy. Then use any brand you like.

I bought a 2.5 litre bottle for my diff and had about a litre left over. Buy it on sale!
You need a quality hex bit to undo the fill plug. I used one that fits a 3/8 breaker bar. Try undoing the fill plug first so you know if you need to buy a tool for it. It's tight!!

Get a steel transfer pump and sit the oil bottle in a sink of very hot water. A plastic pump could break. I find warming the oil makes it heaps easier to suck and pump. IIRC I bought my transfer pump at Sprints, they had good steel ones other places only had cheap plastic ones. I've had my transfer pump over 15 years now.

The Penrite diff fluid comes in nice 2.5 litre bottles with a good flexible plastic filler extension that pulls out of the the top of the bottle. I've used a couple but kept one so even if I buy a different brand I still have the bottle to use as it saves stuffing around with a pump.

best $14 odd bucks you’ll spend to do a diff oil change
Barbed adaptor fits perfectly into the filler hole
Route the tubing so that it pops out through one of your alloy wheel spokes and then pop the funnel in

diff takes 1.3ish litres - I ended up purchasing 2x 1L bottles of the genuine oil through the local dealer
