differential issue

    hey guys im due to get my diff fixed i got a price rebuilt diff completely including diff oil and fitted $700

    im just wondering when they change ur internal gears

    cause apparentely u can get

    gears for better take off

    midrange gears

    and highway gears

    do they charge u extra for them ?? or does it included with the rebuilt of the diff

    4.11 ratio is good for quick acceration, crap top end and economy, yours is prolly 3.08 and they wont change the ratio on just a rebuild. 3.45 ratio is a good alround ratio

    better to get a good second hand gear set than to buy a new set

    ah ok but my mate rekons it might no be the diff which is the problem cause this problem comes n goes the knock sound he rekons i mite have something loose where the tail shaft enters diff im gonna take it in to get it checked out cheers mate 3.45s or 3,55s gears will do the job

    If you do the diff then 3.45's are a great balance between cruising and acceleration.
    On the other hand check you tail shaft centre bearing (where the centre section of the tail shaft passes through a large rubber donut which is bolted to the body).
    The donut perishes and when you accelerate quickly or when taking off uphill the tailshaft bangs against the sides of the donut holder and because the bracket is bolted to the floor then it sounds like something knocking under the floor.

    just exactly how u describe it is wat the issue im getting

    are they expensive to fix?

    Geoff on here (Wagon Wheel) recently had 3:9's fitted into his manual VS Clubby, he said it did **** all, so maybe even shorter would be good. I'd imagine 3:9's would feel better in an auto though.
