If it's still in the car, check the silver ID plates on the bulkhead - first check what axle your's has at the same location. You'll find that 90% are the same ratio if from a sedan.

Why would he need to check what axel ain't they all the same in the vr ?

Being a vr most of them have pretty high Kay's ya prob be better of getting your diff rebuilt as there is no saying what sort of life a diff from the wreckers has had. And without pulling the plate off the back of the diff there is no way of telling what ratio the diff at the wreckers is as there is no way of telling if the gears have been changed or not.

Are you looking to replace your current diff with a good one with same ratio? I'd take the suggestion of recoing it if funds allow, you'll have the peace of mind of knowing you have a good diff, rather than another shagged one from the wreckers.

If you're looking for a shorter ratio diff, look at build plates, but who's to say that the diff hasn't been swapped out during the car's life?

You may have some luck posting in the wanted to buy section on this forum.

All VR's had the same diff ratio. Hard to guess what's in a diff with out pulling it apart though. You're better off getting some gears if that's what your after and rebuilding your current diff.
