Hey guys, I recently noticed all my mates that drive a VY onwards have a digital speedo option when flicking through the menu. At first i thought it was only the series 2 VYs and onwards, but i saw a friend that i havnt seen in a while today and he happens to have an `03 series1 VY SS like me and he has the digital speedo! i dont have it! was it an option from new? whats the go? cheers!
What's a tech 2 device? :s sorry about the noob question ... And what exactly do I have to do to actually get that big numbered digital speedo?
means you have to get someone with a 'computer' to plug it in and change it for ya. like a mate, a holden mechanic or a decent local mechanic who has one,
mine was done for free, go in and ask about services and if the person is helpful sly the lie on about getting a digital speedo applied. some people pay up to $60 just depends if you play the game..
it shouldnt cost much because i have had them quote me $60 to do it but i got it done when i had my whole dash lights where changed and it only take like 2 minutes so if they say it takes more then half and hour then there lying
Mate, I went through a bit of sh** trying to get this job done on my commodore. The first mob I went to tried to convince me that it was cost $1000's to do because they have to change sensors and all sorts. Anyway to cut a long story short, I took it down to another Holden dealer which told me for $40 they can reprogramme my computer to 'Police Mode' which includes the nice big digital speedo. You lose Speed Alert however I always used to have this either off or set to some ridiculous speed. But yeah, they programme it with their tech-2 device (just a device they use to interface with the vehicle's computer). If you get quoted over $60 or told it can't be done, go somewhere else cos it can be done and cheaply. It also takes about 10 mins. Ben
exactly that call up holden first, ask really nicely to change your vy to "police mode" with the tech 2 machine, if they say they need your car for more than 30 seconds or want to charge you anything, hang up and call anouther dealer lol. i got mine done, took 30 seconds and boom! best "bang for your buck" mod ever ......lol cheers
Called up every Holden dealer around me and they ALL said it would take about an hour and cost me $60. Then I called up Gary and Warren smith in Oakleigh.. They said it would take them approximately 10 minutes to put my car into Police Mode, and that it would cost me $40 lol thanks for all your help on this boys! Much appreciated :beer chug:
