Discount on license fee for having good driving record

Got a letter today saying licence is about to expire and that they have a new scheme where if you haven't lost any demerit points in 5 years you may be eligible for a half price licence. How long has this been around (NSW)? this is a really great idea. I think it makes a lot of sense to be rewarding the good drivers instead of just punishing the bad ones, what do you think? I would love to see this extended to things like rego too. Think I'll get a 5 year licence and save myself $81 sweet. Do other states have similar schemes?

$162 for 5 years?
its $170 for 10yrs here in Vic =P
so i guess you guys are getting brought back on par.

i like the idea.

but wonder if itll ever work in the reverse direction as well.
ie every time you loose your licence, your licence goes up by some amount (gives an incentive to not loose said licence)
not saying that too would be a superb idea, but could also work in a larger scheme.

I hope to soon find out soon enough, its a good idea i think. 6 years on the road Ls threw to opens not a single fine hope to keep it that way forever lol

yeap both my wife and I have had the discount on our license here in Vic in the last couple of years. i know its been round for at least 5 years, my olds got the same letter back 5 ago

Same here in Vic, mrs and I got discount but only 30% from memory, I might be wrong though.

I got it when i went from P's to Full License. Didnt lose any points, get any speeding fines etc. during probationary period.

It was one of the new policies introduced by the O'Farrell government late last year.
