    Hey all

Im in the process of purchasing some genuine holden ve projector headlights as my aftermarket projectors are starting to turn white inside and its pissing me off. Reading on this forum its not worth opening up the headlight cover and cleaning it as the same problem will come again.

Currently i have these 35w 6000k hid lights in my aftermarket headlights

HOLDEN VE COMMODORE HEADLIGHT H7 HID KIT SV6 SS SSV HSV | eBay

My question is, once i install the genuine ve projectors with the same hid lights, will i possibly get the same problem from them turning white ?
Im not 100% sure whether it was the hids that caused the inside of the aftermarket lights to turn white as i know there not the best anyway.

Can anyone comment on there experiences and if they have these same 6000k lights in there genuime headlights and hows it going for you ?

    Thanks all :)

35w HIDs will not break down the plastics as they actually create less heat. Its the suns UV light that wrecks the plastic and makes they go yellow and cloudy. BUt even if you sand and polish them back to clear, it will quickly fade again because the UV protectant coat is gone.

Ok so I was running 35w in the high beams in my stock reflectors for about a year and never had a problem with fogging. Then I got the knock off projectors from eBay and installed 55w high and low. About 10 months later they were fogged up. So I installed the DRL projectors from eBay thinking they should be all good. the next day I was driving around and saw a E1 HSV with the DRL projectors that had fogged up really bad. So I'm thinking the knock off ones are made cheaply and not up to australian standard. So genuine Holden stock should be all good, remember the Caprice's come with HID stock.

Here's an interesting page about HID and LED lights. A 35w HID will produce the same heat as a 35w halogen. So not a heat problem. It'll be the UV I believe, which along with the sun is also produced by the HID bulb (I'd say mostly the issue). The cheap options are most likely saving money by using cheaper plastics and not putting enough UV stabilizer in the mix (if any). Plastics are not plastics, they can be tricky to get just right for the purpose. I doubt they're spending much on doing that. Oh and yeah, fixing them is a bit of a waste. It isn't just a coating that's a problem, the plastic is deteriorating more than just the surface. So even with an even mix of UV stabiliser through the plastic (the way we did it), it'll already have started to break down.

My opinion is go genuine, and only use bulbs of a reputable brand.

That is interesting about HID heat, so the light to heat ratio is a lot better with HID's but the overall heat is about the same. what wattage are the stock lights?

I was hoping you'd know BigBoss. But luckily I happen to have my handbook here. For my car it is:
    Headlight: H7 - 55w
    High beam: H9 - 65w
    Front turn signal: PY21W
    Parkers: W5W

So yeah, 35w HID is certainly cooler than stock bulbs.

Thats interesting, so the only real difference would be the UV output then, maybe that is enough to stuff up the cheap plastic.

I have HIDs and they're the biggest waste of money. Half the time due to the poor ground and massive current the ballasts draw the lights take 2 or 3 goes to actually turn on. Auto headlights? Forget it! You start the car at night or in the garage and the lights flicker and then go out and you have to turn the off and back on a few times until both bulbs come on.

Which HID kit do you have mate ? i have the ones in my first post and they work so well. As soon as you turn the lights on there on, no flickering or turning the switch on couple times to make them work properly.

Only had a faulty globe so far and that was easily replaced under warranty i was given.

TBH I just got the cheap ebay HID's and they have been remarkably reliable.

Possibly. But they're connected exactly as the destructions said. I don't really care anyway, it won't be my problem soon.

I use the HID's from ebay and they have worked great for the past 6 months, no problem what so ever. Except the problems I'm having with just about every other light with the car (hopefully unrelated)

I bought a full set from an Australian seller and have never had problems with the flickering or having to turn them off and on after starting the car.

I leave my lights constantly on aswell.
